Tag Archives: Training Tuesdays
Welcome to another training Tuesday! Last weeks update was on instagram -> you can check it out here.
This was a great week for me! I really stuck with my nutrition and work out plan, while getting some good mileage in for my half marathon training.
Last Saturday – Pink Yoga
Bloomingdales hosted a Pink Yoga class at my local Bloomies! For $10 (all of which went to charity) we got to take an awesome Saturday morning yoga class and got some goodies. I love pop up fitness classes where you can change up your routine and experience something really fresh and usually from a great teacher.
Tuesday – Tuck Tuesday
Another Tuesday at Pure Barre – really loving this class!
Got my 5 Daily Moves in followed by some additional abs and leg work! Good at home workout!
I felt super nauseous so no work out for me…
Friday – Barre before Bar
I was able to make the 5:30pm Pure Barre class (which is the last of the day) to start my weekend right. Tons of booty work! I was glad to get a good workout in before celebrating my friends birthday and Saturday’s football watch party.
Sunday Runday at the Surf City 10
I will do a full recap on this race this week, but I had a great race shaving 3 minutes off my current fastest time… still chasing my 2011 PR but so close. I got a 10K so 6.2 miles in for my half training.
Never miss a Monday had me back at the 8pm Pure Barre class! Only my calves were sore from my race so it wasn’t too bad.
Here’s to another week kicking butt in the TIU 31 Day Challenge!
Welcome to another Training Tuesday and the first Tone It Up Tuesday! If I did my math correctly we are 100 days from the 10K of the Star Wars Half Marathon Light Side Race!! Plus I have officially started the Tone It Up 31 Day Challenge! All very exciting stuff her people.
Saturday – Day 1 of the TIU 31 Day Challenge!
Did PiYo Sweat for a 35 min work out plus the 31 reps of the daily moves. These daily moves are free and you can access them here.
Sunday – Sunday Runday
3.1 Miles out on the road. Per my training plan it was supposed to be 5 miles but the TIU challenge had you do a 5k. With the TIU 31 plan I am actually working out more and will hit higher mileage fast – so I figured it would all shake out in the end. Also my 31 reps. Surprisingly these were 3 rough miles. I told myself just make it to 2, then to 2.5 and finally convinced myself to the 3.1! Damn you never know when tough runs will sneak up on you…
Monday – Tuck You Monday (hehe)
Monday evening I took my first Pure Barre class from the Groupon I bought (pack of 10). I have done Cardio Barre and Pop Physic before but really loved going to Pure Barre and felt like I got an amazing workout in!
Tuesday – Training Tuesday
30 minutes on the road as another training run!
So far the Tone It Up 31 Day challenge has been going good! My meal prep and food plan has been on point. I cannot wait until a few more weeks to start sharing some results with you!
I love fun ways to stay motivated for health and fitness and when the Tone It Up girls, Katrina and Karena, announced that they were launching a brand new 31 Day Challenge – I knew I was in! Between having family in town and being in Toronto, September was not my healthiest month. I am so excited to get re-focused on my nutrition and workout, while still working towards my race goals.
I am taking this challenge extra seriously as I will actually have the time to do it! October is turning out to be a pretty easy month for me…
If you know how Tone It Up works than you know that once you join as a nutrition member you get every plan FOREVER… So I will be getting the all new meal plan to really drive this challenge home. Strangely looking forward to this!
The 31 Day Challenge Starter Kit is already available, so I decided to get started with my prep. I made a 4 week long printable to be a handy little check off journal and will be customizing the work out plan to my needs. My printable will have my checking off my booty call workout, hydration, and the new 31 rep challenge. Plus I have included sections to fill in my meals (M1-M5).
For the workouts I will be running (obviously), using my PiYo dvd’s, the Tone It Up girls work out videos (free on YouTube) and a 10 class Pure Barre Groupon that I bought!
Alongside that I want to make my meal prep count! I am ordering these meal prep containers to really put my prep game on point. During my 31 Day Challenge I am also going to do my own beauty challenge / a little self care with a Kate Somerville Clinic To Go Peel and some teeth whitening.
With the addition of this challenge I will make my Training Tuesdays now Training & Tone It Up Tuesdays.
There is still time to get in on this challenge!! Anyone with me?
As announced on Friday – welcome to the first official Tuesday Training posts! My training for the 2017 Star Wars Light Side Half Marathon kicked off last week. In short recap: Tuesday was 30 mins on the elliptical in Toronto, Thursday 30 mins of pavement running, and Saturday was a 4.01K (which worked out to 2.6 miles on my Garmin) at the Prudential 4.01K Race!
I loved kicking off my first “long run” of this training season with a short, free race that started at 10am! The race was held at the Pasadena Rose Bowl so after a Friday night at Halloween Horror Nights, I spent the night with Juli since she lives closer to the start. I woke up at a leisurely 7:30am, we hung out and chatted, got dressed, and picked up a PSL at Starbucks before making our way to the Rose Bowl at 9am.
I have to say this race organization was on par with runDisney and Rock N Roll race series. They had plenty of staff volunteers who knew exactly what was going on! There was swag, plenty of water, tons or pre and post race entertainment and RUDY, our favorite race announcer! Parking was easy, as was our check in! They had 12,000 people registered for this free race!
It was a short race around the Rose Bowl so it was naturally inclined to a lot of walkers but I found my groove and settled into a nice pace. I was happy to see they had a water stop half way through. I finished up quickly and met up with Juli to play some games centered around why it is important to invest in you retirement – hence the 401K theme!
So week one of training was a full success! Ready to report back for week 2 next week!
As you might have seen on social media (or have just guessed) I am once again running the Star Wars Light Side Half Marathon which takes place in January. I am taking on the Rebel Challenge for the third time which includes a 10K on Saturday followed by a Half-Marathon on Sunday.
I obviously run in between my races but I have not followed a stringent training plan in a few years. I felt like it was time to hit the reset button and re-train for the Rebel Challenge from the ground up all of which kicked off last Tuesday while I was still in Toronto. So far I have the two weekday training runs under my belt and my first “long run” this weekend. I am following the Jeff Galloway training plan designed for the race.
My point for training is not as much to work on my physical fitness but the crucial mental aspect of training as well. While it will be great to be in top shape for my upcoming races, I am excited to re-learn the commitment aspect of full on training.
My job requires that I travel for long periods of time (up to 2.5 weeks) and I have never been good about prioritizing my training during these times. While I need to be realistic in my training while work takes priority, it does not mean that running and training is non-existent.
I am great at training when I have loads of time on my hands, but as soon as I hit a busy work week (for example Film Festivals) my training has always taken the backseat. I am convinced that I can do both – and do both well!
We all know training is about prioritizing and sometimes sacrificing some of your time to your training plan. My goal for the festival was to get one run in… I packed my running shoes, knew it was a day I could complete it and I DID. Each week I am planning on giving a training update on Tuesdays – so you can follow along, find inspiration or give me encouragement… or a swift kick in the butt.
So here I am world, putting it out there – holding myself accountable in my training. Let’s see what happens.
