Officially Fan-Girling: Star Wars Style

All right this wolf girl is fan-girling all over the place and it has nothing to do with Dean Winchester…

Enter my first love – the one that brought me to the “dark side”…

That’s right nerds – I too was indoctrinated into the Jedi academy long before I took my first Tardis adventure. And lets say Episode VII will be a celebration like no other… I am already planning themed foods in my head!

But guys beyond themed foods THE CAST HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED!!!

From the Star Wars website:

Actors John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, and Max von Sydow will join the original stars of the saga, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the new film.

Director J.J. Abrams says, “We are so excited to finally share the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII. It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

Are these strapping young men our new Jedis? Is one of them a Solo kid??

Meet Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, and John Boyega… our new leading men.
My bets on driver as the Solo son – thoughts??

Daisy Ridley does bear some resemblance to her could-be grandmother Amidala, played by Natalie Portman… humm is she a little Solo lady??

Like I said fan-girling all over the place…

Oh and Andy Serkis – hell yes!

May the force be with you – as we wait and wait and wait…

Hear Ye Hear Ye Bad Wolf Went to Renaissance Faire

Yes – this Bad Wolf made her way to the Renaissance Faire and had the most amazing time!!

We shot bows and arrows, threw ninja stars and axes, drank sangria, had some amazing people watching and it all ended in a jousting tournament.

I devised my renaissance costume from a halter top corset, a old white peasant skirt I had hanging in the closet, a few belts that I wear often, a scarf I also where all the time, Anthropologie boots, a purse my friend brought from India, and a flower crown I bought on Venice beach. I thought it worked well enough!

Did I mention it was um timey wimey weekend – Doctor Who Cosplay Galore!!

Gotta love it!

So I Went to Wondercon 2014

So last weekend I ventured to Wondercon 2014 and I have to say I had fun!

This was my first time to head to Wondercon which is held in Anaheim. I am a professional for Comic Con and when Wondercon offered me a free badge I said – sure why not!

Now for those of you who do not know Wondercon is a convention put on by the Comic Con International folks. So basically it is well run and celebrates pop culture and fandoms.
There are not as many studios or tv shows at Wondercon as the “movie madi gras” held in July but I still had fun and saw some cool stuff.

On Friday (Day 1) we went and picked up our badges and walked the exhibit floor.
The floor was actually pretty well stocked with great merchandise and a few key players.
DC Comics and Nerdist had good set ups and my new film coming out Friday THE QUIET ONES had a fun booth set up as well.

Saturday was our main day at Wondercon. Mom and I (oh and service poodle Chloe) went to room 300 for panels and my friend Chris went to the arena. I guess we were in Comic Con mode which is get there early and stay. Mainly I wanted to see the Once Upon A Time Panel and the Star Wars Rebels panel – so of course we sat through the Falling Skies and The 100 panels. Highlight of the falling skies panel was I got to meet Billy from Hocus Pocus!

We got to see the Once Upon A Time Panel where we watched the full new episode and Josh Dallas (aka Charming) and Zelena were on the panel to talk about what we had coming for us as the season finished out.

The Star Wars Rebels panel was the highlight of my Wondercon. We got to hear that the Clone Wars team is reuniting for the new Disney Star Wars Rebels. It sounds like this show will feel truer to the original films and it will have a smoother animation style. I will definitely be checking it out!
All in all it was a fun day and I am EXTREMELY ready for Comic Con in July!

Easter at Disneyland

I hope you all had a very happy Easter Sunday – I know I did… I was at Disneyland!
I had never been to a Disney park on Easter Sunday before but I have to say this may become a new tradition. Disneyland really pulled out all the stops to make a special and very fun filled Easter.

Big Thunder Ranch was completely decorated for Easter. They had three character stands where guest could take pictures with different rabbits including Rabbit from Winnie the Pooh, Roger Rabbit, Thumper, Briar Rabbit, and of course the Easter Bunny! Kids (and adults) could decorate a pair of bunny ears, and the had a wonderful “Bunny Hop” where a band played “western” songs and encouraged everyone to dance along. All in all – very cute and very festive!

This is where they also had the professional egg decorators – just wow!

We then had brunch at Ralph Brennan’s and enjoyed a southern spread of crab cakes, po boys, and bloody mary’s before heading into the park.

Over in California Adventure, we went to the preview screening of Maleficent were we saw a scene and an extended promo of the film in 3D. This looks AMAZING and I cannot wait to see the film. It was very neat watching it in the Bugs Land theater and having added effects of smoke and lights!

@DisneylandToday hosted the #HoppyHunt with a scavenger hunt on twitter as well.
The end prize was a cookie and a special button.

My most favorite activity of the day was participating in the 2014 Egg-Stravaganza Easter Egg hunt as Disneyland. Disney provides a map with where the eggs are located and it is your job to go out and find them. Some were easy, but others were tough making it fun for big kids (aka adults) to participate in!

Such a great day and on top of it we had wonderful weather!
What did you do on Easter?

Sitting Out of runDisney Fun

Sitting out of any runDisney race is no fun – especially when your friends and family are running and you are not… but here I am, sitting out of two races. This year I will not be at the Disneyland Half Marathon Weekend and the WDW Marathon Weekend – and frankly I think it is fine.

Last year I ran the Disneyland Half and it was MISERABLE. I mean the worst race of my life. The sad part was I was actually fairly trained for it. See my job had me leaving the country the next day to head to the Toronto Film Festival. I was stressed beyond belief, literally checking emails on the course, and had my laptop with me the whole weekend. It was no fun. Oh – and it was hot.

I decided then and there that as long as Toronto was on the docket I would not run this race and I am fine with it. I have done it and will probably do it again… eventually. But sometimes in a work-life balance, work does win.

Now – this year I had a big struggle over whether to Goofy Challenge it or not. I sat down with my mom and made a pro and con list. Ultimately I decided to wait.

I am going to be partaking in a run club specifically focused on the LA Marathon and really want to give that race my best shot. I would love to have a really great LA Marathon under my belt before taking on the Goofy Challenge. I will have better stamina, more confidence in the distance, and more time to save money.

The other reason is I adore the PRINCESS HALF MARATHON!
If I had to only run one race the rest of my life it would be this one. Flying across the country, getting a hotel for 5+ days, tickets, and race fees all add up and currently it is well worth it for Princess and that is my priority. It also helps that it is always after a film festival during our down time in the office. Plus with my LA Marathon training I will be in excellent form to run the half!

All in all I made a choice to prioritize what is important to me in my late 2014/2015 running/training schedule.

So while I am missing out on Disneyland Half and Marathon Weekend – I will be enjoying to the fullest the Avengers Half Marathon, Princess Half Marathon, and my second LA Marathon!

Surviving Your Wisdom Teeth Removal

I recently had all four of my wisdom teeth extracted and looked around for a post that covered the whole thing, but could not find one. So I decided to write one…

Note: Obviously, I am not a doctor or a dentist or a professional in any industry having to do with teeth, so if something gets serious – go talk to someone who actually went to school for that or better yet your doctor.

Way before my surgery I investigated the potential cost of the surgery using hand dandy calculator tools my insurance provided. I set up a FSA account with this in mind to help cover the cost of my surgery – this proved to be amazingly helpful.

Call Your Doctor
I had my surgery scheduled for Friday morning – so I called on Monday to make sure there wasn’t any last minute information I should know like:

  • When do I need to stop eating or drinking for anesthesia?

  • What supplies should I have on hand for after?

  • Some doctors offices will have your prescriptions available for purchase at their office – this would be good to know beforehand, also in case you need to enlist someone to drop them off or pick them up for you.

You will want to stock up on a few things before your extraction.

  • Soup – looks for soups without any small beans or noodles like tomato soup and bisque

  • Mashed Potatoes – any kind, trust me you will want something savory

  • Popsicles – You will want something cold and easy

  • Pudding – A big bowl of banana pudding is worth its weight in gold – leave out the Nilla Wafers

  • Motrin, Advil, or Naproxen Sodium – yes I had prescription pain pills, but I am not a fan of strong knock out drugs

  • Ice Packs – go to the kids section of the drug store and get 2 “Boo boo buddy” yes mine had Ariel on them – she is awesome. I like these because they are flexible.

  • A soft brush toothbrush – I am a sonic toothbrush kind of girl and that is just too intense for your mouth the first week or so, make sure you have an old fashioned manual toothbrush on hand.

Ok so I had no idea what to expect the day of but here was my experience…

I got to my ortho-surgeons office (which was in Beverly Hills – schmanzy) filled out the usual forms, and had my consultation. They took new x-rays of my teeth, which were not something covered by my insurance since I had already had dental x-rays that year (something to keep in mind), and then met with the doctor. All of my teeth were straight and grown in so it would be relatively easy.

My mom came with me (duh!) and after they went over the cost of my surgery I paid and was on my way back to the room. You really need a helper with you for your surgery.

I had no idea what to expect but basically mine was a amped up regular dentist room. I laid down, went under general anesthesia and was out. I recovered for a bit and they changed my gauze once and sent me home. It actually wasn’t that bad.

Make sure your helper, in my case my mom asks if they needed to put in stitches or just having the blood clot. Also be sure to get an emergency number in case something goes array.

You need to eat in order to take your medicine so we stopped at In N’ Out and I got a chocolate shake. Which due to Novocaine and anesthesia – I got all over myself.

Gauze out, most of the milkshake in, and one pain pill… then nap time.

One thing I did not expect was to be on soft food for a full week. Yeah – boring! I have never had some much sugar and carbs in my life.

Here are my saving graces:

  • Panera Bread soups they sell at Target – mostly the Lobster Bisque
  • Starbucks Caramel Macchiato they sell at the grocery store – you cannot have anything too hot so coffee is out but I bought a jug of this to get my coffee fix. Yes it has sugar, and yes it is probably bad for you, but YES IT IS COFFEE!
  • Taco Bell Refried Beans – ask them to hold the red sauce but these bad boys provide protein and are a wonderful escape from sweets.
  • Salt Water Rinse – I am kinda obsessed with not having something stuck in the holes… So I rinse after every thing I eat.
  • Avocado – they are soft, savory, and portable.
  • Lip Balm – your lips will be chapped, I personally am obsessed with EOS lipbalm

  • DO NOT USE A STRAW – Under no circumstances stuck from a straw, this suction causes the blood clot to get sucked away and you could develop dry socket.

  • DO NOT SPIT – You could spit out said blood clot with too much force, after you rinse just let it fall out of your mouth.

  • TRY NOT TO TONGUE – TMI alert: Yes you will have holes in your mouth where teeth used to be, try to leave them alone.

  • NO SEEDS OR RICE – Dont eat anything that can really get stuck like rice, little seeds (ie strawberry’s have seeds, kiwi has seeds, tomatoes have seeds)

  • STAY AWAY FROM SPICY – I leave a jalapeno seed getting caught in your wisdom tooth hole up to your imagination.

The Importance of Cardiovascular Exercise

Sometimes it is good to remind yourself of the importance of cardiovascular exercise.
Adding cardio to your regular exercise routine not only helps decrease your chance for heart disease,  burn calories, increase your V02 max and promotes a better lifestyle.

More importantly …

Cardio is the key to being a great companion for the Dr. Would you be ready for a trip in the tardis?

Cardio is very helpful for fighting the Huns like Mulan…

Zombies – you’ll need to out run the un-dead… but why are these walkers running?

Running is also key to surviving The Hunger Games…

Summer Lovin’

Sailing Through Life By The Heels Of My Boat ShoesOk so I cannot be the only one who is completely, utterly, ready for summer?

Summers in Southern California are full of picnics, wine tastings, outdoor movie screenings, beach days, and of course day trips to Disneyland – oh also a little thing called Comic Con!!
(Yes – I have a full time job as well)

I am super excited to announce another trip to Walt Disney World will happen this summer followed by a cruise to the Bahamas!

I did want to share what my work out/running plan looks like this summer!

I will be focusing on weight loss for the end of April and May. I bought the Personal Trainer Food groupon and will be following the 28 day plan – to the best of my ability. I still want to lose 20 pounds before my cruise and another 10 before Avengers half…

Wait what was that Avengers Half Marathon – duh!!! This race is November 16th which means summer training – hooray, not. This year I am joining a running club to PR my second marathon which will be on my birthday. #26for26 anyone – more on that later! We start training in September so my schedule may be a little thrown off for the beginning of marathon training and the middle of Avengers but hopefully I will be able to mold the two training plans well.

What summer plans do you have?

The Power of runDisney

In 2011, I had graduated from college and moved to Los Angeles.
I had always been in love with Disney and immediately bought an Annual Pass. My cousin who lives around LA is also what we loving call a Disney Cray (stands for Disney Crazy). We are pretty committed to our love of Disney and spend a lot of time and money on the company we love so much.

One of those things is called runDisney – and to me it is the most important.
Juli had run the Disneyland Half Marathon before I moved to LA and hearing her talk about it made me so inspired. This was her first half – and she had immediately signed up for the Inaugural Tink Half. I wanted to do it, but was so worried about the distance. I had never run more than 5 miles, and that was for softball and I hated every step. How was I going to run 13.1? But it looked so fun. The costumes, the characters, the magic of Disney.

Well I decided I would just do the 5K – and I began to train. My first weekend after learning, studying, and obsessing over Jeff Galloway’s Run-Walk-Run method I ran my first 3 miler. All the sudden the 5K was not going to be enough for me. I talked with my mom and we decided that I should do the half. We had to book through the travel agent since it was sold out, but we did and I never looked back.

My best friend Whit somehow was also convinced she should do this as well. I guess that was how our little team was born! Whit and I had always been athletes and I think I can speak for both of us when I say we always need a goal to work towards. Something to drive our training.

I remember the first time I ran past 5 miles I was so proud of myself! Then it kept going up and up. I did 14 miles with my cousin 3 weeks before and we were ready. I religiously stuckk to the training plan, and it paid off.

So there were three of us all running the Inaugural Tink Half in January of 2012 – and it changed my life. I saw something that looked fun that ended up shaping a lot of the next years of my life.
We crossed that finish line and have again and again.

What started as a girl who just wanted to run one race in a tutu (yeah Self mag tutus rock) ended up leading me to become a triathlete and a marathoner!

What is the power of runDisney – well for me it is the ability to inspire, the ability to change, and the ability to make you do the impossible. Just like Walt said “Its kind of fun to do the impossible.” Well yes, yes it is Walt.

The Tink Half that started it all!

Let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. Hebrews 12:1
